Public Laws of the 106th Congress



The following Public Laws affecting seniors were passed by the 106th Congress in session in 1999 and 2000:

H.R.540 : To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to prohibit transfers or discharges of residents of nursing facilities as a result of a voluntary withdrawal from participation in the Medicaid Program.
3/25/1999 Became Public Law No: 106-4.

H.R.3194 : An act making consolidated appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2000, and for other purposes.
11/29/1999 Became Public Law No: 106-113.

The following measure affecting seniors was enacted into law by Public Law No. 106-113. This bill, among others, was incorporated by cross-reference in the conference report [H. Rept. 106-479] to H.R. 3194:

H.R. 3426 - Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Balanced Budget Refinement Act of 1999;

H.R.2116 : An act to amend title 38, United States Code, to enhance programs providing health care, education, memorial, and other benefits for veterans, to authorize major medical facility projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.
11/30/1999 Became Public Law No: 106-117.

H.R.2280 : To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide a cost-of-living adjustment in rates of compensation paid for service-connected disabilities, to enhance the compensation, memorial affairs, and housing programs of the Department of Veterans Affairs, to improve retirement authorities applicable to judges of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and for other purposes.
11/30/1999 Became Public Law No: 106-118.

H.R.5 : To amend title II of the Social Security Act to eliminate the earnings test for individuals who have attained retirement age.
4/7/2000 Became Public Law No: 106-182.

H.R.4386 : To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to provide medical assistance for certain women screened and found to have breast or cervical cancer under a federally funded screening program, to amend the Public Health Service Act and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with respect to surveillance and information concerning the relationship between cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus (HPV), and for other purposes.
10/24/2000 Became Public Law No: 106-354.
 

S.406 : A bill to amend the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to make permanent the demonstration program that allows for direct billing of medicare, medicaid, and other third party payors, and to expand the eligibility under such program to other tribes and tribal organizations.
11/1/2000 Became Public Law No: 106-417.
 

H.R.2498 : To amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for recommendations of the Secretary of Health and Human Services regarding the placement of automatic external defibrillators in Federal buildings in order to improve survival rates of individuals who experience cardiac arrest in such buildings, and to establish protections from civil liability arising from the emergency use of the devices.
11/13/2000 Became Public Law No: 106-505.
