FirstGov for Seniors is
an official web site of the United States government. We understand that
privacy is an important issue for visitors to our site. Our privacy policy
below addresses your concerns about what information is collected, how
it’s collected and how it is used.
Who Is FirstGov for Seniors?
This web site is provided as a public
service by the the Social Security Administration with additional funding
from the Chief Information Officers Council, and affiliation with
FirstGov.gov, and a
number of federal agencies who deal with senior issues.
Information Collection and Use
We will not obtain personally identifying
information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide
us with such information.
We provide a feature (Ask
Us/Tell Us) that allows you to fill out a form with your personal
information and submit it to us through our web site or by email. If you
choose to provide us with personal information in this manner, we use that
information solely to respond to your message and get you the information
you have requested.
Our concern about sending
personal information
via email
Electronic mail is not secure. Therefore, we suggest that you
don’t send personal information via email. We will only send you
general information via email.
 | We share the information you give us with another government agency
only if your inquiry relates to that agency, or as otherwise required by
law.

 | We do not create individual profiles with the information you
provide nor do we give it to any private organizations or use it for
commercial marketing.

 | Electronic mail messages that meet the definition
of records in the Federal Records Act (44 U.S.C. 3101 et seq.) are
covered under the same disposition schedule as all other Federal
records. This means that emails you send will be preserved and
maintained for varying periods of time if those emails meet the
definition of Federal records. Electronic messages that are not
records are deleted when no longer needed.

We
have a Newsletter Subscription Service that requires submission of an
email address. It is used only for the purpose of sending the weekly
newsletter.
 | We do not share this information with any other agency or entity.

 | We do not create individual profiles with the information you
provide nor do we give it to any private organizations or use it for
commercial marketing.

For site management purposes, we collect
a variety of information including: browser type, originating domain address
(e.g., aol.com), page locations visited, and other miscellaneous
site references.
 | Our system uses software programs to create summary statistics,
which are used for web site planning and maintenance, determining
technical design specifications, and analyzing system performance.

 | For security purposes, and to ensure that this service remains
available to all users, our computer system employs software programs to
monitor network traffic, to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or
change information, to cause damage, or to deny service to authorized
users.

 | Except for authorized law enforcement investigations and as stated
above, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their
usage habits. We do not collect cookies. Server logs as described above
are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National
Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.

When you use a link on the FirstGov
for Seniors site to go to another web site, our privacy policy no longer
applies. If you wish to know the privacy policy of the site where you are
going, contact the webmaster of that site.
Use of the FirstGov for Seniors Site
Information presented on the site is
considered public information and may be distributed or copied for
non-commercial purposes. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is
requested.
Unauthorized attempts to upload
information or change information on this web-site are strictly prohibited
and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986, the
National Information Infrastructure Protection Act and other applicable
laws. Violation of these laws could include criminal penalties.
